I need a man...like a fish needs a bicycle.

On Easter, we had this tradition where an old man down the road would paint little ‘bunny’ prints along the sidewalk, as well as up to the door of every house where a child lives…and he’s done this every year, without fail, since before I was born.

Over the summer, that old man passed away, so no one in their right mind expected to see the tracks this year.  However, when I woke up- there they were!

Turns out that his eighteen year old grandson (who happens to be known as the badass of our school) got up at three this morning and spent four hours- by himself -painting the prints; just to make sure that the neighborhood kids wouldn’t be disappointed.

My faith in our generation = restored.

Marry him.

Hamish McHamish, Pride of St Andrews

Look at those beautiful green eyes, who could fail to fall in love with this moggie, I certainly would me being a cat lover. Hamish wandered out of his owners house at the age of one never to return, don’t worry she knows where he is, well more or less. Hamish strolls around St Andrews often found in flats, shops, hairdressers, restaurants and university buildings all over the seaside resort. He even has his own facebook page but don’t try to friend him he has reached the limit allowed and it sits at 4,998. The friendly feline has even had a book written about him “Hamish McHamish of St Andrews: Cool Cat About Town” by Susan MMullan, a statue has even been commissioned in his honour. He has several favourite haunts, such as estate agents Pagan & Osborne on South Street, where he goes for breakfast every morning, and salon Dynamic Hair, next door, where he goes for a daily brush. Everyone seems to have a tale to tell about Hamish. There’s an unwritten rule in St Andrews – if Hamish appears at your door, always let him in. His original owner still sees him and takes him for a annual check up at the vets, she is Marianne Baird a retired BBC producer, she commented “I’ve had to accept Hamish’s choice of lifestyle. Once he had grown out of kittenhood, he decided my house and garden were too small for his adventurous nature and he began his wandering ways. I put up with the empty-nest syndrome for a few years and then got a dog. But Hamish scorns all dogs and never comes to visit. Once a year, I have to initiate a search to find him so I can take him to the vet for the annual health check. Thanks to the good folk of St Andrews, Hamish remains well-fed and healthy, although he’s approaching old age. If he could speak, I don’t think he would say, ‘I belong to St Andrews’ but rather ‘St Andrews belongs to me.’” More about him and a link to his book below

ENGOLDENED

I learnt a new word and I love the sound of it: kintsukuroi. It is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with seams of gold. Kintsugi repairs the brokenness in a way that makes the container even more beautiful than it was prior to being broken.  Not a very common idea in western culture!

Instead of diminishing the bowl’s appeal and appreciation, the “break” offers the container  a new sense of its vitality and resilience. The bowl has become more beautiful for having been broken. One can say that the true life of the bowl began the moment it was dropped!

Imagine you are that clay pot: celebrate your flaws and imperfections. Remember that you being you is what makes you uniquely beautiful.

And remember: “The world breaks everyone, then some become strong at the broken places.” Ernest Hemingway

An interesting essay on the art of kintsukuroi can be found in Flickwerk, The Aesthetics of Mended Japanese Ceramics.

I’m pretty sure that I’ve reblogged this before, but its actually one of my favorite posts on tumblr. The idea that something can be more beautiful after being broken is so moving to me. I kind of want one of these someday, or to make my own. It’s an amazing concept, and I love the fact that it’s an artform.

This is completely beautiful. What a lovely lesson.

You know how boys complain about being “friendzoned”? Well we experience this totally legit thing called being fuckzoned. It’s when boys want to have sex with you but they never seem all that interested in getting to know you

Or for their fancy car,
But because they sing a song only you can hear.
